History and Background
The Roanoke Regional Partnership is the regional economic development organization representing the counties of Alleghany, Botetourt, Franklin and Roanoke; cities of Covington, Roanoke, and Salem; and the town of Vinton. Founded in 1983, the Partnership is a joint venture between the eight governments and more than 200 private sector businesses that want to help this region grow.
The Partnership’s program of work includes business attraction, retention and expansion, market intelligence, asset development, and image building. More than $1 billion has been invested in facilities and equipment with the Partnership’s help and more than 14,000 primary jobs have been created along with 13,000 secondary jobs. The Partnership assisted with projects such as Ardagh Packaging, Arkay Packaging, Altec Industries, Ballast Point Brewing, Deschutes Brewery, Dynax America, Eldor Corporation, Integrity Windows, McAirlaids, Metalsa, Orvis, Virginia Forge, and Maple Leaf Bakery.
The Partnership created Roanoke Outside to showcase why the Roanoke, Virginia, Region is one of the best outdoor communities in the United States. In 2013, with the support of the Partnership, the Roanoke Outside Foundation was officially formed as a 501(c)3 charitable organization. It is our mission to make outdoor activity and environmental stewardship a core component of our community’s lifestyle by promoting a “conservation through recreation” philosophy.
