Amazon is planning to open a new last-mile facility in the City of Roanoke which will allow the company to better serve customers in the City and across Southwest Virginia.

Launch plans for this facility are in the early stages, with construction scheduled to start in the coming weeks.

With coordinated efforts from the City and the Roanoke Regional Partnership, Amazon recently purchased 50 acres from Deschutes Brewery on Blue Hills Drive.

“The City is the ideal location for an Amazon last-mile facility due to its proximity to the interstate, infrastructure, and available workforce,” said Marc Nelson, Director of Economic Development for the City of Roanoke. “We are grateful for Amazon’s investment in Roanoke because it strengthens our ongoing economic development efforts.”

“The Roanoke Region is benefitting from a diversity of investment opportunities including those from internationally recognized companies like Amazon,” said John Hull, Executive Director of the Roanoke Regional Partnership. “I look forward to the growth of Amazon and the economic vitality it will contribute to our region.”

Amazon will provide additional details regarding the opening of this facility and hiring as launch plans are finalized.
