Housing Sales and Employment Lead Improving Economic Indicators

The Roanoke regional housing market continues to improve, reflecting signs of strength in the region’s economy.  The most recent figures from the Roanoke Valley Association of Realtors show area realtors sold more housing units in March 2015 than in any other March since 2008.  Furthermore, more homes were placed under contract in March than in any other March since 2007, reflecting continued strong Spring demand. 

Roanoke’s economy continues to show signs of improvement.  Not only were Roanoke area home sales in the first quarter the best since 2007, but unemployment in February 2015 was the lowest seen in any first quarter month since 2008 and private sector employment finished last year at the highest level since 2008.
