Job Listing: Data and Research Analyst

The data and research analyst has the opportunity to turn data and information into actionable insights, making a positive impact on our region’s governments, businesses, and economy. This multi-faceted position includes but is not limited to: assisting government partners in understanding complex issues, guiding developers to better understand market opportunities, staying abreast of development activity, proactive on demographic and economic trends, and responding to prospect information requests. The data and research analyst is an integral part of the Roanoke Regional Partnership (RRP) leadership team, and works daily to make the Roanoke Region of Virginia a more vital economy and a vibrant place to live, work, and play.

JOB SUMMARY: The data and research analyst is responsible for collecting, cataloging, and maintaining data and information including demographic data, economic data, real estate information for use in client-facing communication and preparing research to support the strategic mission of the RRP.   

DUTIES:

  • Research and answer information requests from prospects, partners, and investors
  • Work with a team of local economic developers and the director of business investment to respond to requests for information
  • Maintain current knowledge of data sources
  • Maintain regional real estate inventory
  • Maintain current information on website
  • Provide supporting material for prospect visits including Power Point presentations
  • Coordinate and supervise Cost of Living Survey
  • Support executive director in preparing economic impact and ROI analysis for projects and events
  • Maintain up-to-date data products
  • Generate market intelligence that impacts RRP strategies
  • Supervise primary research as necessary
  • Supervise annual compilation of market performance indicators in support of RRP goals
  • Support local governments with research/information products and projects
  • Assist director of business investment with project management tasks
  • Assist executive director with management of the Western Virginia Regional Industrial Facility Authority
  • Represent RRP at events during and after hours
  • Special projects as assigned

 REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook. Word, Excel, and Power Point.  Also skilled with databases and IMPLAN
  • Proficiency with online databases including state, federal sources of data and private, subscription databases
  • Writing and presentation skills
  • Organizational skills and ability to prioritize
  • Understanding of the mission and goals of the RRP
  • Ability to understand, analyze and interpret complicated data at a client-appropriate level
  • Knowledge of current market conditions that affect business and industry and RRP strategies
  • Familiarity with research methods and sources
  • Ability to respond quickly. Expedient, excellent, and complete communication is a core value.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

  • Combination of experience and education to include a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and ideally one to three years’ experience in government, business, data analytics, planning, geography, mathematics, social science, or a related field.
