July 4 Events Happening All Over the Roanoke Region
How are you celebrating the July 4 this year? With plenty of festivals, food, brews, and fireworks (of course), there’s no better place to spend the holiday weekend than right here in the Roanoke Region. Here’s a look at the festivities:
Buchanan Community Fourth of July Carnival
Voted one of the “Best Community Events” by readers of The Roanoke Times, the event features nine days of old fashioned carnival fun. Begins June 25 and runs through the holiday, with fireworks July 4 at 11 p.m.

4th of July Independence Festival
Start the celebration off early with music, fireworks and activities for the kids in Rocky Mount.
Thursday, July 2 at 6 p.m.
Four on the 4th
Start the day with a 4-mile run/walk or 1.4 mile fun run for the whole family in Downtown Roanoke. All proceeds from the Four on the 4th support the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia.
Saturday, July 4 at 8 a.m.
Fireworks on the Fourth
Spend the evening dining from local food trucks at River’s Edge and listen to plenty of great music. The festivities will be followed by fireworks at 9:30 p.m.

4th of July Pre-Fireworks Party
Celebrate the birthday of America at Chaos Mountain Brewing with fresh brews and music before the fireworks display.

Vinton Fourth of July Celebration
Music by The Kings and plenty of games, food and activities. Fireworks at 9:30 p.m.

Salem Fair 4th of July Fireworks
Plenty of fair activities all day throughout the fair, July 1-12. Celebrate the holiday with a fireworks display for July 4.

Smith Mountain Lake Fireworks
The annual fireworks display is put on by the Saunders Volunteer Fire Company at Parkway Marina. Activities, music, and food all day to celebrate the 4th of July.
