Save the Dates for Fall Events

It’s not too early to start planning for some of the biggest events of the fall.

Save the dates for these events, which are put on and managed by the Roanoke Regional Partnership and Roanoke Outside Foundation.

Virginia’s Blue Ridge GO Cross Presented by Deschutes Brewery

Sept. 1-2, Fallon Park

go cross cyclocross roanoke

GO Cross will draw professional cyclists from all over the country for a cyclocross event that can be described as steeplechase on bikes. The spectator-friendly event features a course at Fallon Park where riders hop on and off of their bicycles while leaping over barriers and sloshing through mud, navigating gravel pits, stairs, and barriers. The “in-field” activities will include a Deschutes Brewery craft beer garden, food trucks, a running race, yard games, and of course heckling.

Banff Film Festival and Get Outside Expo

Sept. 26, Jefferson Center

banff film festival roanoke

The Banff Film Festival is a traveling world tour pack with films that are inspiring, adventurous, and thought-provoking. They are created for like-minded audiences in cities, mountain towns (like Roanoke), and villages in over 40 countries. The only showing of these films in the area will be during the event at the Jefferson Center.

Anthem Roanoke GO Outside Festival

Oct. 12-14, Rivers Edge

go fest roanoke

GO Fest is the biggest outdoor festival on the East Coast. This is not an ordinary sit-in-your-seat kind of event; it is designed to encourage participation and involvement. Participate in races and challenges, touch and try out gear, sample food and drink, listen to live music, and have fun. There are more than 120 free workshops and clinics throughout the weekend.

What’s important about all of these events is that they provide an opportunity for visitors to experience the Roanoke Region – and maybe move their family or business here – as well as give residents a chance to appreciate our natural assets.

Companies, such as Deschutes Brewery and Humm Kombucha, have cited the outdoors as one of the things that attracted them to the area. Further, major employers say the narrative and resources provided by the Roanoke Regional Partnership and Roanoke Outside are a key part of attracting talent to the area.

So make plans to come to these events this fall. You’ll have fun while learning about outdoor initiatives happening in our community and opportunities to get involved, and you might even make a business connection or two. See you there!
