Job Listing: Director of Market Intelligence

The director of market intelligence has the opportunity to turn data and information into actionable insights, making a positive impact on our region’s governments, businesses, and economy. This multi-faceted position includes but is not limited to; assisting government partners in understanding complex issues, guiding developers to better understand market opportunities, staying abreast of development activity, proactive on demographic and economic trends, and responding to prospect information requests. The director of market intelligence is an integral part of the Roanoke Regional Partnership (RRP) leadership team, and works daily to make the Roanoke Region of Virginia a more vital economy and a vibrant place to live, work and play.

REPORTS TO:  Executive Director 

JOB SUMMARY:  The director of market intelligence is responsible for collecting, cataloging, maintaining, and presenting a wide range of information that is critical to the work that supports the mission of the RRP.

DUTIES

  • Research and answer information requests from prospects, partners and investors
  • Work with a team of local economic developers and the director of business investment to respond to requests for information
  • Maintain current knowledge of data sources
  • Prepare site studies and requests for information
  • Maintain current information on website
  • Provide supporting material for prospect visits including PowerPoint presentations
  • Coordinate and supervise Cost of Living Survey
  • Conduct economic impact and ROI analysis for projects and events
  • Prepare custom prospect presentations
  • Maintain up-to-date data products and reports
  • Provide data support to RRP activities including asset development and talent attraction
  • Generate market intelligence that impacts RRP strategies
  • Identify data that supports understanding of RRP mission to investors
  • Supervise primary research as necessary
  • Supervise annual compilation of market performance indicators in support of RRP goals
  • Support local governments with research/information products and projects that contribute to leadership action
  • Design and implement research projects that provide thought leadership that can lead to progressive action in the region
  • Plan long and short term business objectives for the department that will build capacity and capability and support position as the region’s preeminent data source
  • Assist director of business investment with project management tasks
  • Assist executive director with management of the Western Virginia Regional Industrial Facility Authority
  • Represent RRP at events during and after hours
  • Special projects as assigned

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point. Also skilled with databases and IMPLAN
  • Writing and presentation skills
  • Organizational skills and ability to prioritize
  • Self-motivator with ability to approach job responsibilities from an entrepreneurial perspective and execute responsibilities on time and budget with minimal supervision
  • Understanding of the mission and goals of the RRP
  • Ability to understand, analyze and interpret complicated data at a client-appropriate level
  • Knowledge of current market conditions that affect business and industry and RRP strategies
  • Familiarity with research methods and sources
  • Ability to respond quickly
  • Ability to work as part of a team and frequently as team leader
  • Strong interpersonal skills that forge productive working relationships
  • Commitment to continuous improvement in all job responsibilities
